First of all, I'm not sure how to get the fuel sending unit out of my 1974 maverick. I could probably figure it out but I'd rather someone with experience tell me if there's any trick to it before i screw anything up =)
Also, is there any feasible means of putting a tire onto a rim without a press? I've tried some pretty ridiculous things but I'm about to give up.
    Any help would be appreciated...thanks!

You must drop the fuel tank. Then the cover pops off . We used to put tires on with a couple of crow bars, but believe me it is easier with a press.

You don't need to drop the tank to remove the sender, remove the wires, tap out the locking ring, then pull the sender out.. Get as much gas out of the tank as you can first.

Last time I tried to put a tire on without a press, I broke the damn bead. Destroyed a tire that only had 200 miles on it. :slap:

Well I did the tire myself and it took a screw driver some dish soap and about 2 minutes....no problem =)
