i just got my hands on new/used plasma cutter. I got from a friend of mine and he told me he was using it and it quit working. I got my hands on it and fixed it but I have to get tips, cups and electrodes. I fixed it at worka nd tried it out with the bad tip and cup and it cut but no real pretty but it worked . I will be picking up the parts tomorrow and giving it a real test on the cowl assembly of the 72 Grabber.:bananaman
We had one of those at work. My boss hates plasma cutters with a passion for some reason. So we use the oxy-acetylene torch 99% of the time instead.
Ive used both... the plasma was frustrating to use at first, which is proboally why he doesnt like them They are alot better once you learn to use it correctly
With correct tips, a plasma cutters are far superior to tourch cutting. It does not put near as much heat into the metal as a tourch will. Especially important when cutting sheet metal. For sheet metal, depending on what I'm cutting something for, I perfer a cut off wheel over my plasma cutter. With the cut off wheel. the edge is dressed and ready for welding. If you cut with the plasma, it has to be cleaned up first. For fabricating brackets or anything over 1/8", the plasma is the only way to go.
I picked up a Miller Plasma cutter over the summer,,, Makes life so easy,,, Restoration with little damage to parts coming off of parts cars,,, Your gonna love that thing,,,, Joe
Yep, they are nice. Get some scrap metal and practice cutting with it until you get familiar with its capabilitys and limitations
