I installed NOS a few weeks ago and didnt fill the bottle until today. I used it on a divided highway in Michigan (US 12-Michigan Ave) about 6 times with 3-4 second bursts. It was a full bottle but with the air temp being only 67 degrees the tank was at 800psi and not the optimal 900-950 psi. So the net result is I ran a little gas rich which is non damaging. I ordered from summit an edelbrock heater blanket with an automatic thermostat which should have me at optimum NOS pressure everytime for $129.

My NOS system is an Edelbrock Performer with the jetting at 100hp. When I first used it I did not want to use it until I was in 2nd gear, when I triggered it, my engine sounded like it had some serious ponies under the hood, rpms shot up , my hood raised it seems like inches. I havent had this kind of excitement from a car for years. I have a C4 auto and had a chirp going into 3rd gear.

I did this a few more times and at the end hit the NOS 2 seconds before I shifted to 2nd gear and laid out rubber. The test drives went great. There is alot to monitor on these test runs not just the road. I monitored my oil pressure, rpms, a/f ratio and the sounds from the tranny and rear axle/posi. It all panned out well for me.

Now I am just a dyno tune away from having a real machine. My buddy thinks he will get it to 300 ponies (without the NOS) with the dynotune, carb jetting and timing adjustments and carb adjustments. If I run at 400 ponies 3 seconds into a 1/4 mile at Milan Drag Strip, what kind of times can I get? I am hoping for 12's.

My wife thinks I am acting a little babyish, but those test drives were exhilirating for a 45 year old guy with a stressful job.

I am of the opinion that a 100hp shot on any 302 has virtually no risk of engine damage. I tell you I was hauling ass and havent moved that fast in a long time. With the Edelbrock NOS Performer kit and the heated blanket I will have $600 into the unit and I think well spent.

With 300 horse to rear wheels you should run in the 12s anyhow, I would be willing to bet with 100 shot you should be deep in the 12s

Definately deep in the 12's.My car would be lucky to make 250 hp and it went 12.90 on a hot and stinky day.

I have a 125 hp NOS system on my truck and the instuctions say "For stock internal engines" so i don't think you could hurt anything with a 100 shot.

i know the first time i used nitrous, my friend and i then understood why its called laughing gas. we couldnt stop laughing with glee. there is noting like the way nitrous hits. ive used a 150 shot on a couple of stock v8s and have had no engine failures. i belive the key to keeping the motor alive is avoiding detinations with high octane, retarded timeing, and colder spark pulgs. enjoy the juice

remember that running rich is just as bad as running lean you can lift a ring land and then you have to spend alot of money to redo your engine
always run your bottle pressure at the factory recommended pressure
that will help from running rich most NOS engine failures are from running to rich

    Cool story!
My only experience with it was I was pressing the button for a buddy in his '82 GT(when he told me to) and we grenaded the rearend when he yanked it into 2nd gear.
That was the end of my NOS experience.

I heard it phrased best from a buddy of mine, he loved it and it ran great but the fun ran out when the bottle ran out.. Sucks to be cruisin the drag whompin on everyone just to have a ricer give you a good run when the bottle runs out....
