Hello,

Looking to have the exhaust done this year; plan on going with dual 2" stainless pipes (engine is near stock and will stay that way). From the pictures I've seen on this board most have used an offset inlet and centre outlet mufflers with an overall length of < 20" placed in front of the rear axle.

1) As I can not readily access my car at the moment to take measurements can you guys advise if there will be any fitment issues with a pair of these due to the width or height of the following mufflers?

Magnaflow 11224
Body Shape: 4in.x9in. Oval
Inlet/Outlet Size: 2in./2in.
Body Length: 14in.
Overall Length: 20in.
Core Size: 2.5in.
Position: Center/Offset

or
Dynomax Ultra Flo Welded Mufflers 17514

Body Shape: 4.5in.x9.75in. Oval
Inlet/Outlet Size: 2in./2in.
Body Length: 14in.
Overall Length: 19in.
Core Size: 2.5in.
Position: Center/Offset

2) Also as far as sound goes, I'm I better off with the Dynamax or Magnaflows? (looking for some rumble here, but don't want a drone).

Thanks.

Magnaflows. I am unsure of the numbers or length. Hopefully this picture helps. Absolutely no drone. I also have over the axle pipes that exit directly out the back.

I'm partial to the Dynomax super turbo mufflers.

yep.. those are great street mufflers and they flow well more than enough for smaller/milder motors. (y)

My advice to you would be to practice extra caution when planning to go with 2 inch piping all the way back.. as even a milder 302 will easily tax such a small system and pumping losses will ensue. A bone stock 289 2bbl that only cruises?.. sure. Just not a 302 4bbl with any parts other than stock.

Personally.. I'd go 2 1/4 all the way through the mufflers to the axle.. and then drop down to 2 inchers from there on back if you want to save space. That will equate to about 4-5 ft lbs of average gain for better for off-idle torque and mileage. Don't forget to use a balance tube either since they can also help even more when used with chambered mufflers like the dynomax's.

Also.. keep in mind that if you're not using smooth bent mandrel pipe?(most don't).. which is likely overkill in your application anyways.. then the compression/crimp style pipe benders at the muffler shop will hurt ID even moreso when working with too small a pipe to begin with.

Harsher over the axle bends will cause the pipes ID(it's externally sized and obviously even smaller inside) end up at about 1 5/8 which is just too damned small.. especially around heavy curves. Using compression benders on 2 1/4 will still leave you with about 1 7/8 ID on the hardest bends and would be much better on a small V8 with pipes going all the way out the back.

Thank you for the advice, after looking at Craigs pictures and reading the explanation above I will be going with 2-1/4 inch duals. Pictures will be posted once completed for others reference.
