mounting sport mirrors

this may sound dumb, however -where you would insert the screws for the sport mirrors, i dont know the name of the item but it is missing from the drv side rear screw. i can stick one in but the rear screw will sit and spin. what is that item called? can i only get this at a body shop?

 

It's called a nutsert, i got mine from my local ACE hardware store.

my uncle had one so i just borrowed it.

it kind of look like a pop rivet gun.

 

If it were me, I'd replace it with something that's easier to install and remove. I'm a big fan of using something better than cheap 1970s technology whenever possible. Plus I hate nutserts

No need to buy any special tools. All you need is a bolt, nut and washer.

That's how I did mine...but I used a srewdriver to tighten the screw.

Anyone know a trick to remove the remote retainer ring without ruining it?
I also need to mount sport mirrors but am stuck until I can remove the old one...
