i just scored a set of hi back buckets from a 73 stang and a set of mustang 2 sport mirors for 20 bucks:bananaman what i want to know is whats differnt about the stang2 mirors? they just dont look qwite rite on the side of my mav? but they look exsactly the same?
Good score for $20 ... The seat frames are the same as Grabber seats. Even thought the bases are wrong on those mirrors, the internal parts are the same and could be swapped into Mav sports mirrors with broken glass, etc. Disconnecting and re-connecting the remote looks like a test of patience, though ... :16suspect I don't know if Mustang II bases are close enough if you could "fix" them with a file by recontouring them, but that might be a possibility, too. Look into getting some nut-serts for the attachment points in the body, they work a lot better than sheet metal screws.
hmmmm recontoring them sounds like a good idea. i could put the bases on a belt sander to shave doun the bottom.how far back are regular sport mirors mounted?
They are factory-mounted too far back on the door for most people's taste. I would move them forward to where they look better with the A pillar. Your visibility with them there will be better too. I'll be moving mine forward. Are you familiar with how woodworkers scribe an edge to meet a wavy wall? Might be useful here to mark the base. I hope this is clear enough ... mock up the mirror where you want it (another pair of hands might help here). Measure the largest gap between the two pieces. Set a compass for that gap, and draw your line all the way around the base while dragging the compass pointer along the door panel. If nothing else, marking it this way will show you if you can get away with reshaping it, or if it would remove too much material.
Nice score. There is a member on here that has Mustang II mirrors on his car. I don't think he modified them at all.
well thats good advice but i still have to fill in the dang holes if i move them forward. i just might do that.
