Going to junk yard this weekend for the half price weekend . Witch ford have mini starter ???? and due I have to get a starter of a 5.0 car or can I use a v6 car??????
Dunno, go to NAPA, Advance, etc web site and look them up to see if are same part number... About any model from '92-up used the mini starter, not all are same though... The ones for 4.6 mod motors have three mounting bolts, dunno if the upper and lower line up with a two bolt small block starter... NAPA, Advance can't help on that one... BTW if you find a early '92 4.6 with AOD, those starters are same as small block...
"go to Advance web site and look them up to see if they are same part number..." that's where I go for parts swap info...
Automatic and manual transmissions are different too because of the difference in ring gear location.
This is true for '70s but around '82 Ford went to same starter for manual & automatic, which is same as earlier automatics... Due to a different cable attachment(bolt instead of stud), theses starters have a different part number, of course they are the antiquated field type so few are now interested in these starters... I'd suspect once into the mid '80s any engine that uses the small block bell pattern can use same starter(this would include the 3.8 v6).... As a interesting FYI the three bolt starter used on the 200 is same one used on FE(think 390/428), and this is auto or manual... Also it's possible to use those three bolt 200/FE starter on automatic small blocks... It isn't clocked properly, cable connection will be close to exhaust manifold but years back I ran one on a '71 351 for four or five years before selling car... Small block starter won't work on FE as the actuator cover hits block before bolt holes line up...
My 70 200 had 2 different starters listed. A short snout and longer snout. I forget which is which but one is manual and one is automatic.
Yeah there are different starters for S/T & A/T 200... In '65 A/T & S/T 200 were same but with introduction of Bronco in '66 they are difference... I had no idea they could be same as FE but when I pulled starter off my '71 GT parts car it had the aftermarket 3131 number on it which is same starter as my 428... I checked the Ford Master Parts Catalog and found they are listed together, surprised me... That's some excellent info!!! I knew A/T & S/T were same in the '80s, didn't think about difference being 157 or 164T flywheel... Using a stick flywheel, we ran my engine on the test stand using my new PMGR starter to crank it, but it is a 157T...
