I just received the following note from a Slot Car / model builder. Anyone have info on a Trans Am effort with the Maverick? "Late in 1969, Ford was under the gun to shut down the pesky Penske Camaros that were dominating the T/A series. To help bolster their brand image, they launched a secret T/A program called "Grabber". The car was brought out for testing, but due to it's slightly lighter shell, was quicker than the flagship Mustangs. Unable to allow this "econobox" to beat their bread and butter, the program was terminated in March of 1970". Test driver, Sam Warpdorpl, was amazed with the car's performance; "The Maverick handled very well. I was turning times better than Folmer, which of course, pissed him off to no end. Although he'll never admit it, I think he's the one that persuaded the Ford brass to cancel my chances for a complete ride for the season. I'm not bitter though, I managed to get a ride with a U-2 Pinto for a few races. "
The guy that sent me the info is making a 1/32 scale Maverick slot car bodys. Go to this site to see them. http://p198.ezboard.com/fhomeracingworldfrm2.showMessage?topicID=7438.topic
