I have been riding the subway in Boston for 8 years and have enjoyed not having to own a car. I recently relocated to North Carolina for a job and have been forced to buy one. I originally planned on spending around $10,000 for Honda or some other typical sedan type car. I happened upon a 1977 Maverick from an old lady who drove it to the store and back her whole life. It is a 6 cylinder, 32,000 original miles, original paint job and interior, and includes every single piece of original documentation. Yeah, it's not a V8, it doesn't have any sport options, but I like it because I didn't have to put a lot of money into something that I really didn't want to have to own in the first place. I never expected that I would find something that I love this much for the amount of money I spent. $ 2700.00 - 1977 Ford Maverick $ 14.51 - Inspection (replace headlight), Oil Change $ 6.54 - 6 Spark Plugs $ 24.99 - Distributor Cap $ 4.49 - Rotor $ 1.79 - Fuel Filter $ 49.96 - 4 Shocks $ 3.99 - Air Filter $ 2.49 - Emissions Control Filter $ 2808.76 - Grand Total Not too bad for a car that is running pretty much perfect. Classic cars for poor people.
bananaman:bananamanWhat a find. It may not get as good of gas mileage as a Honda, but you can buy a lot of gas for that $7,000 you didn't spend. Welcome and congrats on a such a cherry find.
That is a AWESOME car! Great find and man-o-man are you now one of the coolest people in N.C. I was just down there a few months ago....beautiful state. Has anyone told you about the MCCI? or the Round-up nationals? visit: www.maverickcometclub.org Again, welcome!
Thanks for all the replies so far! Heh, the one thing I am worried about is the gas mileage, but you have a good point there. Plus I can fix this car myself, so I can save some money on maintenance. I am still trying to average out the mileage (I am still on my first full tank.)
Wow, thanks for that picture... very cool to see that. I like your seats a lot; They look more comfortable than mine for some reason. My dashboard still has the original "Saftey Precaution" sticker on it.
Thats one clean car. I used to hate 4 doors but after looking at the ones on this sight and the enthusiam behind them, I was convinced years ago that they are pretty neat. I would buy one like yours in a heart beat. Welcome to our little corner of the internet.
