I have a dilemna similar to what Ray just did. My boss at work has had a Factory Five Cobra kit he has been putting togethor for many years now. He hasnt touched it in a year or so and I keep giving him **** about it and telling him to finish or sell. SO last night he comes up to me and says he has a number for me. I didnt know what he was talking about. He said $13k for the cobra. He has about $25k into the kit, donor parts, upgrades, cobra brakes, wheels tires, etc. Its a rolling chassis thats just about ready to fire up. Body is still as it was shipped and will need to be done. This is a great deal because the plain kit is about $13k before getting all the drivetrain donor parts, wheels tires, and any upgrades.

But now Im torn. I dont have the cash and am weeks away from closing on my house so financing is out of the question. I have my 70 F-100 which I could sell for $8-10k maybe if it goes back east. But that wont cut it on its own. So theres the Maverick. The value is a big question mark. Its not original and its not a fresh restoration. It needs a couple things to be a great car again. but with how much I have in it I think it would be hard to get a price I can be happy with. If I could sell the maverick for enough and keep the truck I could do that because Id basically be trading maverick for cobra and then finish the cobra as I can. If I have to sell maverick and truck and end up around $18k then that would allow me to finish the Cobra completely and end up with a car worth around $30k.

SO is it a no brainer to sell my 1st and 2nd vehicles to get the car of cars and have a serious toy? Im really hung up on the emotional attachment to my maverick since its my first car and had it for 19 years now. Maybe once the deal is done I wont regret it, but right now I cant convince myself to put them up for sale.

A hard decision for sure. The fact that you have owned that car for so long would make it difficult. But, having a Cobra would be very cool as well. Do you really think you can finish the Cobra for as little as 5k?

Obviously, a decision only you can make.

If it feels like a dilemma to you, and you dont know what to do...Your not ready to sell...Worry about the house...The guy will still be sitting on the car a year from now. You can re-visit the cobra then...

Relocating to a new residence will most likely put working on a kit car far down the list of priorities. If u sell both vechicles and acquire the money u still have to put it together. With so much time and money in the Mav u've had for 2 decades.... I also think u will regret it. If u don't have to sell the Mav.... I wud go for it. It is a gud deal if one is in position to take advantage of it.

It always seem to happen this way...hang tight with what you've got, get the house deal done, and settle in, then see, there will be more Cobras, they make them everyday, not like Mavericks.

Well the cobra is far beyond Kit status. Its a rolling chassis with very little work to be done o the chassis itself. It needs interior put in and the big thing is the paint and body work on the body. Thats where the exrta $5k will be needed, mabe less. And the house deal isnt really setting me back. We are buying the house we are already living in, we were renting it from my brother for 3 years so we are already well settled in. It just took up my available assets for the down payment.

I can sell the truck without remorse. I think it could be worth $10k to the right buyer in a state that dosnt have as many rust free ones as we do here. I really dont think I could sell the maverick. But Ive always wanted a cobra, almost bought one in 2000 when I was dumping money into the maverick. But I put it off and then never had the money again. If I sell the truck and find a source for the other $3k or so then I might make it happen. The good thing is that I have until november to make it happen. If I dont by it by then, then he will have 2 weeks vacation he is taking and says he will work on it and keep it after that. There are kits that are less assmbled and without engine/trans selling for $17k on FFcars.com. I will never see a deal like this again. I think Ill put a week or two into cleaning up the truck and putting it on the market to see what happens, start high and feel it out.

Id say sell the truck for the $10k then when you have that in hand take your maverick and see if you can get a title loan on it for the other $3k then you get to buy a cobra and keep your maverick.
    OR
$10k CASH RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW
pull the money out and lay it on the table get some $20's and $50's in there to make the stack of cash look bigger and to look like you had to put it together instead of just going to the bank and saying give me $10k little bundl.e you might look like youre just not trying to pay his price if its all nice neat and bundled in $100's
everyone could use $10k cash it might be a hard offer to refuse once the money is in his face

good luck with your decision but I say you would regret selling your mav if you did. you would become one of those people who search for years and years trying to find it again hopefully for sale

is this a "Cobra" or a model of one, is there a difference ? if there is, have you always wanted a..."Cobra" or a kit car?

you would be the second one on here to...sell their Maverick...to buy a kit car.

    ......

You can never get your first car back if you sell it! I see Cobra replicas all the time. I'd keep the Maverick! When the finances come together a cobra could come your way! I think you would regret selling either the car or the truck! :)

yes and they are installed. Im going to keep my maverick and truck for now. I could sell the truck and get most the cash but its just not the right time to dump cash into this.

glad you made a sensible decision. after having your car for soooo long and doing sooo much work to it I would say you wouldve definitely had sellers remorse. maybe not the day you sold it or maybe not the day you bought the cobra but definitely the day after that

I definitely get too attached to my cars and could see the regret coming. I had a 1950 Ford 2 door that pretty much sat in my back yard for 10 years until I sold it in a rush for cash. I regret that alot and only spent like a week working in it. And my 1954 Willys Cj-3b, it was nice but had to work on it everytime I drove it. But I sure do miss that one too. If a car makes it past 2 years with me then I really must have liked it and its hard to sell.
