    I was looking at a site with some old pictures of Islip Speedway on Long Island (closed in the 80's) I remember there used to be a fair amount of Mavericks body cars raced there. They were cheap and plentiful back then. Here is a picture of 2 of them.

    That's very cool to see, love the old pictures of Mavericks on the track.

    Actually these cars were racing in the figure 8 division. This class ran 6 cyl. motors. They ran the oval for the qualifying races and the last race of the night was run in the figure 8. I remember the red 49 car was Chris Young. He was the figure 8 division champ a couple of times and them moved up to the Nascar modified division. In this picture it looks like he lost his rear right wheel and spun around.

    Islip Speedway had the figure 8 and demo derby championships televised on ABC's Wide World of Sports for many years back in the 70's - for those of you old enough to remember.
