My grandparents have a 70 or 69.5 Maverick that has been parked for over 20 years. They need to get rid of it and offered to let me have it if I can get it running. The body is in excellent condition and the engine ran when it was parked.

What will it take to get it running again? Can the 6cyl engine be made to run again or should I just get a 302? I already have another project going so my budget is limited.

Also, does anybody know how to get a new Texas title? My grandfather can't find the original one.

    Thanks

Pull the plugs and Squirt oil in the cylinders to ensure the bores are not dry when you first start to turn the engine over. Change the oil in the crank case. With a high amp battary replaceing what is a dead one, turn the engine over (plugs still out) If it turns free, check to see if you have spark. If you have spark, replace the plugs with new ones, squirt some gas in the carb and turn it over. If it fires then you may want to put gas in the tank and run it a bit. After it has run you can determine the condition of the engine. If it will not start, trouble shoot why. No gas or no spark?

Regardless, once it is running you will know if you will have to replace the engine.

Not sure about TX, but in so.Cal. all you do is start by applying for a duplicate or lost title with DMV, Public Safety in Tx I think.

    Good luck!

Don't forget to make sure you have fresh gasoline, if there was any left in there I doubt it will do anything but thin paint. Drain the entire system of any old fluid and make sure the fuel pump diaphragm is not dried and rotted out. Oh yeah flush your radiator too if it still has some in there. Good luck(y)
