I have an opportunity to buy these '69-'70 Mustang seats with tracks for a good price. Are they the same, under the skin, as same vintage Maverick seats? I'd only be interested in them if I could re-upolster them like the comfort-weave seats some of the guys on the board have had done recently. Thanks for any input.
69-70 Mustang seats are thicker than the factory Maverick 71-72 buckets, that are closer to the 71-73 Mustang seats. You'd still need to use Maverick seat rails.
The guy wants $120 for them. I thought that was very reasonable, but I'm not sure. Craig, what would be the point of buying them if they don't "work" on a Maverick (other than if you have a Mustang too, or want to re-sell them)?
That is a good price. I would either use them in a Maverick...of I would resell them and make a little money on them.....that way you can buy the correct seats you want.
1969 Mach 1's had Comfortwave, they do have a red stripe in the seat, and brand new covers are $142.00/ea from National Parts Depot. Which would fit directly on those seats. 71-73 Mustang seats used different foam, compared to those.
TMI makes a lot of replacement covers for Mustang seats, and I would bet that is what NPD sells. I have seen TMI covers for 69-70 that is "Comfortweave". That is in quotes because the real stuff is no longer produced and this is a fake pressed vinyl. The is what is now accepted in car shows as a substitute for lack of the real thing. TMI does have Mach 1 seat covers with a variety of colors on that added stripe, and black with a black stripe is available. If you are looking for a matching rear seat cover for a Mav, you now have a problem .... Mach 1s were fastbacks and have the folding rear seat, so a Mustang seat cover won't even be close to your Mav back seat. I did make standard 71-73 Mustang Coupe seat covers work. They are detailed in my project thread .... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=55560&page=6 . This page show the back seat. If you continue to page 9 or so, you get a look at the completed passenger seat. Starting on the driver seat this weekend. You will have to modify the rear seat bottom, either add material to the skin, or radically chop the seat frame like I did. I would recommend adding material. Mav LDO foam for the seat bottom is a better fit for the Mustang cover, too. Fred Carillo, a board member here, makes excellent skins for Mavs, but that will lead you back to 71-73 frames.
