I was taking my Mav down to the local cruise in Thursday night, the car started a little rough which was odd and I got about an 1/4 mile from the house leaving a stop sign and I hear a big bang. I immediately pull the car over and shut it down, I get out to access the damage and I have oil and anti-freeze pouring out of the oilpan. I pulled the motor out yesterday found that the piston rod at the wrist pin had broken. The cylinder is not scoured and I can see no other damage. I am concerned that the block is cracked with the antifreeze pouring down into the oilpan. From your experiences is this consistent with a cracked block. Engine is a 351W 12:1 compression high performance motor.

Look a little closer, where else would the coolant come from? Safe to say you'll need an entire engine, prolly 99% of catastrophic engine failures will destroy the block...

If a rod let go...You have coolant in the pan...Its safe to say the block is damaged beyond repair.
Hope I'm wrong for your sake. Good luck!!!

Hopefully when I pull the heads the top end will be in good shape, I am heading to a 302 HO.

Hope your block is ok, are you sure you want to go to a 302 HO, you might not like it as much as the 351W HP, blocks can be found, I know I will never go back to a 289 or 302, I love my Roller 351W.

12:1 compression? What are you running for fuel?

What kind of rods you running in a 12:1 engine? I wud think a rod letting go wud cause some serious damage.

I'd look real close at the cylinder wall...probably a crack in it.
