I was taking my Mav down to the local cruise in Thursday night, the car started a little rough which was odd and I got about an 1/4 mile from the house leaving a stop sign and I hear a big bang. I immediately pull the car over and shut it down, I get out to access the damage and I have oil and anti-freeze pouring out of the oilpan. I pulled the motor out yesterday found that the piston rod at the wrist pin had broken. The cylinder is not scoured and I can see no other damage. I am concerned that the block is cracked with the antifreeze pouring down into the oilpan. From your experiences is this consistent with a cracked block. Engine is a 351W 12:1 compression high performance motor.
Look a little closer, where else would the coolant come from? Safe to say you'll need an entire engine, prolly 99% of catastrophic engine failures will destroy the block...
If a rod let go...You have coolant in the pan...Its safe to say the block is damaged beyond repair. Hope I'm wrong for your sake. Good luck!!!
Hope your block is ok, are you sure you want to go to a 302 HO, you might not like it as much as the 351W HP, blocks can be found, I know I will never go back to a 289 or 302, I love my Roller 351W.
What kind of rods you running in a 12:1 engine? I wud think a rod letting go wud cause some serious damage.
