I have a 1973 Mav 302 w/power steering no ac and I want to convert over to manual steering, the last thing I need to figure out is what water pump pulley I need that will allow me to run the alternator and water pump on the same belt. The set up I have now one belt drives the water pump and power steering the other drives the alternator. The 1967 Mustang 289 double groove water pump pulley looks like it would work because of being shallow, has anyone tried this or know what else will work? Thanks John

I am in the same boat with my 75 Comet, the belt for the PS also drives the water pump. I might use a meziere electric water pump.

I'm not 100% sure but I dont think you can change the water pulley and make it work...you have to change the crank pulley to a 3 groove and alternator to a 2 groove or go with the March serpentine belt conversion.

I'm in the same boat, but I do have the 3 belt crank pulley and two-belt alt pulley, so maybe I'll be all set when my w.p. pulley arrives. Otherwise, March, here I come! :D

I have march pulleys.I had the same problem. So i just moved the alt closer to the block by making new bushings and using a shorter bolt through the alt.I'll try to get some pics.

I too am thinking of getting the March setup but the one for alt + p.s.. I am wondering though if it is possible to mount an aftermarket air conditioning compressor in the place of the p.s. pump. I dont have power steering and dont want it. I do however want air cond. What do you all think?

Thanks all, I'll have to check out the March setup if the stock steel pulley search fails. John

findin the single belt factory pulleys is tuff !! I love the wat the water pump pulley is larger than most others ( with the factory single pulley system)..I am gonna get the march serpintine pully set...however at hard high RPM the "v"-belt slips...lettin a few more ponies loose:D
