I used a set of McGard nuts I picked up at Canadian Tire. They are short, but I inadvertently ended up buying the 1/2"-20 that uses a 19mm socket instead of the 21mm socket like the originals would have. This smaller hex allows for a smaller socket which keeps the outer diameter of the socket away from the wheel when removing/installing the nuts. A longer nut wouldn't require this, as the socket would be engaging the lug nut before the holes in the wheel. Personally, I like short lug nuts and short valve stems on a wheel... and all my tires clocked the same way wrt each wheel... i can check the McGard numbers on the nuts when I get home if you want. IIRC, most all old Ford wheels(and Magnums too) use a ball seat style lugnut. Just be sure they are not tapered style seat as those will chew into the wheels and eat up the lugnuts after a few R&R's.
I use Gorilla brand lug nuts that have the smallest OD of any I have found. They even provide you with a special wrench when you buy a set of 20. I have AR "Maverick" rims where the lug nuts go into a deep counter bore. Not much room for a regular socket.
