hey how is everybody doing well ass u all kno i have a 5.0 mustang 1993 lx i kno this is a mav forum but engines are the same. well yesterday after a 60-75 mile i heard my radiator fan was shaking and out of no were i lost a big chunk of horsepower. my engine did not over heat. but when i give it gas it does not have power like it use to. i have no idea what it can be but anything would help.
radiator fan started shaking, hmm how are the belts, fan blades? did you look down to see if something is binding the belts? I would break the belt and see if one of the pulleys is hard to turn, had a buddy with a torino that lost his AC compressor, kept the clutch engaged and caused HORRIFIC loss of power. If none of that i would start troubleshooting your fuel/air/spark systems, check for leaking fluids or strange noises. Also check to make sure your fan clutch is disengaging as it should be at cool temps. with the engine off, the fan should rotate freely. A shaking fan, can be caused by either loss of balance (blade bent etc) or a semi-frozen belt caused by another culprit. At least on the cars with a fan clutch.
Do you know for a fact that it was your radiator fan shaking? Does the car have a vibration or shake in it now? I'd take a look at the harmonic damper on the front of the engine. They are known to go out on the later 5.0's, though not sure if '93 specifically would be included (all three of my dad's '95 GT's had to have them replaced). It'll be obvious if it's bad. Ohh, and by the way, if you scroll down a little on the main forums page, there is a section called "other automotive tech and talk", precisely for non Maverick/Comet cars.
well i took of the fan and noticed that the bearings on wat turns the fan went out so that has to be replaced but when i took it of i still had problems still no power so im gona replace the spark plugs wires cap n rotor to see if that will do. any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Check your fuel pressure/fuel delivery/gas filter.Check to see if the Timing Chain didnt jump a tooth or two that will cause your problem as well.Check the tps sensor/wireing to it as well as Maf/map.Good luck.
