ok so i'm looking ofr a center link (drag link) for my 72 maverick, and the only ones i can find for that year are manual steering, but my 72 maverick has power steering...whats going on here, was it a later add on, or do they not make center link for the early ps mavs ...please help
I have a power steering center link if you need one. It has a fairly new reman'd power valve attached. Let me know if you need it.
k thanx 4 the help, pm'd you scooper what should the steering be like in a maverick with "stock" pwer steering. mine seems very loose compared to the explorer we have...i understand that theres a 35 year technology difference and wear diference...lol. but should there play a bout 1/10 of a turn of play in the steering wheel?
Power steering and manual steering center links are VERY different. Manual has 2 holes and a ball-type joint at one end where it hooks up to the steering gear box. The Power has 3 holes and the power valve attaches at the end. They are not interchangeable. Check your PM...
i mean, both are power steering, but the power steering in my maverik is very loose, should it be this loose, or do i need the new center link as i may believe
Ford power steering systems are very loose. Many of us have swapped over to manual steering because of it. It will swim from side to side, with up to 1/2" to 1" of free play in the steering. If you have power steering, I doubt the center link is your problem. You may have some worn bushings, but overall, no matter what you replace, you will still have some freeplay if you use the ford style power steering system with the power valve power assist. It has to move a certain amount before the valve opens in either direction allowing the assist to activate, thereby creating the play we all complain about.

I would love to trade for a manual centerlink and pitman arm from a pre 75 maverick.
