I was at the wrecking yard today and came across a lincoln town car with a dual overhead cam engine with 4 speed automatic trans. Has anyone tried to install this combination in their mav and if so what mods are needed. I believe the engine is about 281CI. I can get the combo dirt cheap but was not sure if it will fit between the towers.

It must have been a Mark VIII, town cars only had SOHC.

The engines are super wide, think big block dimensions.

Actually, the standard 4.6L is a dual cammer. The Cobra engine and the Lincoln engine has four cams. Those engines are wider than a 460 at the top and as deep or deeper than a 390 towards the bottom.

I have a Mark VIII motor and trans out in the garage, it measures 28" across. I'm pretty sure that the only way would be to tube chassis the car. BigBully on here is working on it you might ask him.

Not to argu but the standard 4.6 is called SOHC (Single Over Head Cam) two heads so you have two cams. The cobra & Linclon mark VIII are called DOHC (Duel Over Head Cams) two heads four cams.

It would be great to have either in a maverick. The magazines are getting some impressive numbers out of the standard 4.6 (400hp) with very little done to the engine. The only draw back is the price of the parts.

Yes, I agree. The standard 4.6 is a SOHC. I have one in my '95 TBIRD. (y)

I already have the 302. One of the wrecking yards that sponsor my racecar has 2 of the engines and thought it would be neet to put it in the mav. I was just curious to see if it would fit prior to getting it.
