i was wondering if anyone has installed a cig. lighter in their mav. not to smoke just for electronics like radar detectors, cd players, little defrosters, ect. i have been toying with the idea but wouldnt have a clue where to wire it. any input/suggestions? if anyone has done this pics would be awesome. thanks guys. robc
Well some of the Mavericks and Comets came with them in the front ashtrays. If you open yours you will see straight in towards the top where there is a disk or maybe just an open hole for one. I don't know if there is a plug in for one already there like the cars that came stock with one, but it is a simple manner of putting the lighter and receptical in the ashtray provision and hooking up a constant power wire. Not to hard, just look around under there. If you do add one, add it to a fused circuit, or to the accessory fuse block if you have one. Hope this helps some. -Corbin
My '73 did not come with a lighter, but it has one now...for the very purpose that you just stated (I don't smoke). Simply pop that little metal plug out of the ashtray opening and it goes right in with a nut on the back side. The dash is grounded, so simply run one wire from the lighter socket to the fuse designated for the dome light, and you have it...
i shoulda thought of that sooner. instead, todd put the manual choke knob where the lighter plug is. kinda cool huh? can't see the choke unless the ashtray is open.
I installed a lighter socket on the rear wall of the package tray, kinda high up. You can't see it unless you stick your face down there. I can recharge my cell phone and it lays in the tray and the cord to the G-Tech reaches nicely. BTW, even if your car didn't come with a lighter the wire for it is right behind the ashtray.
Barry is that the brown wire with the single bullit type plug on the end? I have found that wire loose under my radio in the 73. Russ
Could be. I don't remember the color. But it had a right angle bullet connector on the end and of course it has constant power. I used the same wire to hold the memory in the digital radio.
