Hey fellas, haven't had much going on with the comet lately.. but now that the summer is over its time to dig it out and enjoy it... I got around to installing some lakewood traction bars just the other night.. the last time I installed a set was back in 98 or so on my 71.. I don't recall any issues back then... this time around on the 76 the shock mounting tabs are not going to line up.. so we ended up cutting off one of the tabs and welding it the the correct position.. I don't remember the exact part number for the bars but they are the 2 1/2 U-bolt lower plate version... I also found out the rear shocks are shot and the front and rear leaf spring bushings need to be replaced... The fronts are going to be a MOFO to get to as a previous owner had subframe connectors welded in and the tube ends up blocking any access to the bolt that holds the bushing in.. So I would have cut the tube, possibly blow a hole in the reinforcement plate that is welded to the frame, swap the bushing, then figure out a new subframe connector... as far as the rears, I was just going to order up the 2005rg poly bushings from mustangs unlimited... The one odd thing, and I think its because of the shot bushings and the bar snubbers needing some trimming....the right rear tire rubs now on right hand turns.. Anyway, I just wanted to vent my comet woes as I try to rebuild by memory of the 71GT of 15 years ago...
