So far so good. I've been fiddling with it since Sunday afternoon, today I stood and jumped on my new front passenger side floorpan. Completely made from sheetmetal, still bracing it up and such, but its in there... now to finish the driver's side and get my cowl from Chandler, drop the 351 in there, I'll be good as new in another year or two... lol
Apparently I don't have a before shot of the floorpans... I'll post a pic of the new floorpan itself this afternoon.
I used 20 guage (pretty sure its 20) sheetmetal and lots of time... The sheetmetal is almost twice as thick as the metal it replaced, and its still thin enough to burn a hole in a heartbeat.
hey 74merc a little tip for ya. when i did my pans they had a slight "oilcan" effect to them. i just found the high spot and run a bead of weld across it to tighten it up. worked really well.
looking at yours inspired me to get mine redone.....i had a guy use glavanized to do mine and it served its purpose but now i need more strength.... today after work i striped the interior.....everything except the dash and head liner is out...the carpet was trashed anyways and the seats need to be redone....i had my son clean all the dirt out...and i will get a saws-all from my friend tomorrow and cut the sections out...i found a donor mav in the junkyard... the guy wants 100 bucks for the floor pans... just need to find someone who has a portable welder and can teach me.... \ then once it is all welded i will paint the interior and sound proof it a little...
Driver's side is out, grinding away at the spot welds now. For anyone looking to do this, a 3/8 spot weld drill bit makes it much easier. I tore most of the floorpan out with a pair of lineman's pliers after the first cut, hit the welds with a the bit (gotta have a center punch to keep the bit from walking), and gave it a good yank. A die grinder is almost required for a straight line along the edges. Grabber75, you mean where the floorpans pop? Strategic welds work wonders don't they? I had planned on welding in a tiny piece of angle to prevent it, but once I welded the bottom side of the subframe to the floorpan it drew it right up. I doubt I'll get that lucky on the driver side. Home made subframes are the next project, depending on when I get the cowl. I'm trying to stiffen up the body a bit as I've always had an irritating vibration. It seems to be a unibody feature...
