    Hiya all,

Well winter is here and while the car is sitting around while i figure out how to hook up the clutch i am gonna be doing the interior. I got the option of the god aweful green interior. I want to change it. Most all the panels inside are perfect, the dash would need replacing and so will the door panels, but everything else is good. I will be doing a new headliner, new carpet and new seats - like racing seats or may goto some nice mustang seats, will have the rear seat sent out to be redone.

I have seen some people using that interior paint or dyes. can anyone give me their results and let me in on the best brand to buy. I want to switch the color to black.

    thanks

74Grabber; I used the charcoal gray stock Ford Mustang interior paint for my Mav. You can get the black also, and it is a semi-gloss, so it is not reflective on the dash. This is for the metal parts. For the plastic, use the SEM vinyl prep, and use a good vinyl spray paint by SEM or other quality maker. I used the above mentioned, and it will still peel off in some places. Just keep after it and it will look good. Let us know,

    Earl

be very careful when painting your interior. Done right, it will look great. Done wrong, it will look cheap and painted.

Do not hold the can too close, that is the #1 mistake. Hold the can at least a foot or so away, and do multiple coats (after the previous coat dries) do multiple coats until the color is a filled in.

I would suggest a semi-gloss or flat black. I tried the gloss on my mustang, and when the sun hits it, it shines right in my face like a huge spot light!!! The flat black tends to look more original.

I get the flat black and put a light enamel coat over it, that brings a little shine to it.
I am still playing with the enamel coats, and testing it for durability. Once you paint your interior it will chip and flake, so you will have to constantly maintain it.

If your headliner is just ugly but not torn up save yourself alot of time and money and buy a couple cans of Duplicolor black vinal paint. Take your seats and everything else that you can out, mask everything, lay down lots of newspaper and have at it. Oh yea, a face mask is a VERY good idea! I had black boogers for a week. Anyhow its been a year and a half and my headliner looks better than any new one I have seen! Shines and shimmers without being annoying. I wouldn't recommend using that particular paint on anything that your body comes in contact with on even a semi regular basis though or anything that is constantly in the sun (fades) such as the top of the dash. But front kicks, rear kicks, door panels, dash (do a good job on this one!) are all good applications, if your on a budget get two rolls of carpet from Wal-Mart auto section and lay those down too. They last longer than you might think, mine are going on 3 years and look ok but need replaced. Seats will need to be dyed. I have no experience there, anyone have tips?
