I have an aluminum intake on my 302 that I bought dirt cheap off my buddy, he said it was a factory 302 aluminum intake off a mustang. my question is would I get a noticible power gain if I replaced it with an aftermarket aluminum intake like a Holley or a Weiand or something? and could somebody explain to me the basics of intakes and what determines if its more of a low rpm or high rpm or all around gain? thanks
Here is a good read: http://www.musclemustangfastfords.c...plane_or_dual_plane_intake_upgrade/index.html
its all about haveing a matched combination. with stock heads and cam you probly wont get any gains worth the cost of swaping the intake. on the 302 the heads are the most restrictive part. if you really want to get a nice gain get some beter heads. you can get gt40s for pretty cheap these days.
If it's a stock 302 intake for a '85 Mustang, they have very small runners, and are designed for low end,(low RPM) torque,I had one, and a dual plane aftermarket will help, but as posted, need better heads for real gains in power.
