Hey guys i am in a bind. I got a hold of a 71 Maverick grabber real cheap but it has no title. When i went to the dot the said i could not title it cause someone has a claim on it. They wont release the guys information, i keep sending letters to the dot to give to him but i never get a response back. If any one has an idea let me know i would really like to get started with this car. Thanks in advance.
I'm not familiar with Iowa's laws, but maybe you could file a Mechanic's or storage lien on the car.....I've done this a couple of times on cars I've gotten without titles, but not with other claims on them, so it might not work the same in your case, but I think filing a lien might at least get you the other claimant's information.
You might go to (or call) the county clerk's office. Start with the county that the car was most likely last registered in. Tell them you need to run a lien search against the VIN. Their office should be linked to other counties as well in case the lien was filed in another county.
Its worth a shot guys i really do appreciate the help. I have alot of plans for the car but i did not want to get to carried away.
