I am trying to put the new lock cylinder into my ignition and I followed the procedure of how the car needs to be before it goes in, but the pin that I need to press in order for it to go in won't move at all. I've tried moving the cylinder around to different spots but it still won't go anywhere. What do I need to do?
I have a shop manual for cars up to 1973 + the paper that came with it and they all basically say the same thing. What I am referring to is the pin. It does not press down so I can put it in.
Ok, you may have to use we40 to lube. Not a lot. It should push in easy If I remember right. You push the lock an cylinder in then turn it to start.
alright now I'm really stuck. I roated it and there's a certain distance there the pin goes in. I got that but now the trouble i the cylinder won't rotate enough to light up with the slot in the column. returning this and getting another
Nope, I put them side to side and the new one is turned a little to where it won't go in. Nothing I can do about it. I tried.
I am going to check my parts book . I know for a fact that sometime the aftermarkett revises things an makes mistakes. Done been threw this before. You have a 1975 Maverickright.
ok something's wrong. the new one is doing the exact same thing. the shaft just won't position enough to fit in the slot and have the pin pressed down at the same time. it's off by a few degrees compared to the old one. As you can see in the picture the new cylinder is turned as far as it can go, suggesting it is in the run position as shown by the 'LOCK' writing on it in as a reference. The part # on this is LC14040
I have a orig here that the pin will depress anywhere from approx 11 to 1 o'clock... That's with LOCK on the ear located opposite side of where pin is(6 o'clock)... Assuming everything is physically same on both tumblers, all you should have to do is rotate slot in column till it lines up with lock and it should go in... What position it's in to depress the release pin doesn't really make a difference(well as long as you know where the correct position is)...
