I just put a msd ignition box in my mav and i am wondering if I can remove the old ford ignition? If not, then what else does it do? i really want to unclutter the engine bay as much as possible.

Do you have the MSD run through the stock box?

I ran mine off the box, but I think you do not need to...
Someone else will need to say for sure.

I was posting to suggest you mount your MSD box behind your dash. That will be one thing out of the engine bay. Then if the stock box can go, that's more gravy. If not, you could mount the box inside too.
Some other things to clean up the bay:
    Internal regulator alternator.
One wire alternator would clean things up further.
Trunk mount battery. (I did this, then took the tray out. This leaves a perfect little shelf for the MSD if you leave it in the bay.)
Mini-starter. (They have the solenoid on the starter, to get it from view.)
You could mount the solenoid in the trunk with the battery though, and have the same affect.
If you want to get really crazy, you can mount the coil behind the dash as well. They make bulkhead connectors to run a coil wire to your firewall, then from the firewall to the distributor.
Getting the ignition out of the engine bay does wonders for longevity by taking the components away from heat and weather.
    Good luck
    Dave
