well hi every one! im new here so just like to start off by letting you know what kinda mavrick i have. i just bought a 1976 4 door red mav. it has a I6 200 in it. it needs some work. but i love it. im going to have some one put a new engine in it for me...but i dont know exactly what to ask for. i want a v8 in there. and i want to switch it to a manual trans. i want a 5 speed. i want the best i can get. i also need to do somthing about the steering. the thing is all over the road! soooo what should i ask for in technical terms?? i also want to have some one put some bucket seats in. how much do you think that would cost?? well thank you guys for your time. hope to talk to you soon.-james
V8 swap I am not sure what you intend to do with the car but just for practical reasons if you put that much money in the conversion your overall value at the end will be based on the fact it is a 4dr. Most want a 2dr, but nothing is out of the question, the problems envolved with the V8 and std trans will be even more pronounced in some ways with the 4dr(clutch linkage, clearances and such). My opinion is to get the front end rebuilt at reputable shop and go from there, I would use a 302 and C4 for ease of installation. Maybe even go with a efi 5.0. Just for thought, to have this all done by someone else is going to be quite exspensive and time consuming. Maybe would be better to look for a 2dr and use the 4dr for a dailey driver while getting it modified. I have a 73 4dr with 250 six and auto and is great to drive around, the other 2dr's are highly modified with V8's etc. Still get more attn. with the 4dr on the street because it is all original. Used 84 Mustang buckets in one of the 2drs and with some mods, they fit good. If you are still wanting to do the swap in yours take it to a good shop and have them give you advice and quotes on the job, you may be surprised at what the outcome will be, either way good luck with it.
Alright, if you want a V8 in your car ask for a 302 or 5.0 they are the same thing, if you want a 5speed ask for a T5 or just a 5speed, if you take it to a good shop they can fab stuff up and have you on your way, personally I would rather have a bad@ss 4door instead of a 2door but thats just my opinion.
