what would cause my front tires of my mav to wear only on the inner couple of inches of the tire? Is this a suspension problem if so what are some possible problems?
sounds like ball joints to me, I would take it to get the front end checked out if you don't know a friend that has a rack you can use.
You either have worn out parts or you are in need of an alignment. That wear pattern is the result of either exessive negative tow (tow out), or exessive negative camber (top of tires in at the top). Or a combination of the 3. Get the front end checked for worn parts. Make shure they check the play in the strut rod bushings, they are sometimes overlooked and will cause some tire wear. Good luck Don
mine was just the opposite. the wear was only on the outside. alignment guy looked at one tire and said you definitely have a toe in problem. i bought new tires and brought the car in. he put it on his machine and punched in the type and year of car in his program and proceeded to fix it. i even picked up a little at the track.
Normally toe will wear more evenly across the face of the tire. You can see the scrubbing, but it will usually be even. Usually when wear is concentrated on the inside or the outside, it is a camber problem, and normally with Mavericks the wear will be on the inside because the camber problem is directly related to slowly sagging shock towers.
My '72 was the same way. The toe in was so bad it would actually continuously chirp the front tires going around corners.
