Any body have a pic of the dist. order and firing order. My car is running like crap and right now not running at all and I want to double check the order. Any info ASAP would be really good... thanks in advance!!!!

#1 on the cap can be anywhere you want it if you pull the distributor and start from scratch. The best thing to do is just continue using whatever tower has been #1 when it was running. If that is not an option, you will have some work to do and get the engine up to TDC on compression stroke #1 cylinder, then start wiring wherever the rotor falls.
Ok, so the car is running now, but worse then it ever has. Order seems to be fine... It sounds like a helicopter and... and dont know.. im getting frustrated... Any other ideas???
The only problem there.....Is, you may or may not have all of the advance or retard that you may need....Some caps have the #1 positioned on the cap just for this purpose
I have been following your posts, but haven't said anything yet. Have you checked to be sure you don't have any stuck valves or collapsed lifters or something? Is the engine vibrateing/shakeing around excessively? If you are tottaly sure you are getting fire in all the cylinders and the fireing order is correct, I would start checking compression and stuff. So far, everything you have said describes to a T what happend to my engine last year, except mine is a 6 cylinder. I was just like you, double and triple checking my fireing order, the whole 9 yards.
here is a questionfor you... if every wire was off by one, would it still start? i dont think this is the case, but who knows... When I use the timing light, it shows that I am 30 over TC... is this normal. When I turn it to TC it pretty much stalls out... do i then have to change the wire order or what???
I had stuck exaust valves on cylinders 1, 3 and 5 which bent the push rods. The engine ran terrible and all signs seemed to point to the fireing order being off. The engine ran fine before, then I changned the oil and spark plugs, and that's when the problems began. I took the head off, took all the valves out, chucked them in a lathe and polished them to a shine with a piece of scotch brite, relapped them to the valve seats, installed new valve seals, and reassembled the engine with new lifters and push rods. That was 27,000 miles ago and counting. The engine still moves my '72 up and down the road every day (factory engine from my '74 Grabber). Not saying that is your problem, but it sure sounds familiar.
Does the engine have the original timing set? It sounds like the plastic timing gear may have deteriorated and slipped. If this is possible, you DON'T want to run the car anymore! It can slip to a point that it breaks lots of stuff. Does the car have points? Did you make sure you were on the #1 wire when timing? (I know, but I gotta ask ) Dave
To Jamie... MAN!!! It sounds TOO familiar!!! and that sint g ood at all. Too advanced and time consuming for me. Ratio: im not sure if it is original... it has 2 TC markings, one in the middle and one on one side (my right looking in) and 1 ATC to the left... Yes my car has points and I just changed those tonight, along with the cap and rotor (after it not working for a couple days). This did let it start up again, but now it runs pretty crappy. i have to go to work in the AM so any assistance tonight is appriciated. So, let's recap... did oil change wednesday, spark plugs saturday. drove like crap saturday/sunday. died sunday night. changed coil, cap, rotor, and points tonight. now it starts again and runs like it did saturday and sunday. I have made sure wires are in right order and it was on #1 when at TC... whoo hoo... let the night begin!
