YouTube some vids about this dist if you don’t know about it. So far it’s amazing. so to those with more exact knowledge then I have, I’m curious of your opinions on setting my timing curve. it’ll set as low as 10 and go all the way to 50 BTDC. With my stock early 70s 302 from a 70 F100, what would you use for the following settings? base timing Total timing All in RPM and how much Vacuum Advance As of now I use Base 24 (this mimics my old distributor with 12 deg vacuum advance at idle using manifold vacuum) Total timing I’m using 36 All In I’m going between 3500 and 4000 RPM. So far 3500 seem slightly better at cruise speed and no ping as far as I can tell. 4000 setting seems slightly weaker needing a little more pedal at cruise Vacuum Advance I have set at 14. As a safety feature it won’t allow Total timing and Vacuum Advance to be more than 50deg combined which is good. depending on the numbers used in the set up screen to create a curve it adjusts from 400rpms to my rev limiter 5000rpm the curve in a smooth fashion. You can adjust any number of those rpm ranges as well, to dial it in even better to your liking. I just drive it normal and never run it hard. I hardly ever go beyond 3000Rpms. Any suggestions to better my numbers I use now? Am I close or way off?
With base of more than 16*-18* it'll probably be difficult to crank when hot. Does it have a timing retard during crank? Full timing should be all in before 3000 RPM. Only time the engine will not ping at 50* is under very light cruise.
I run 35°-37° total, all in by 2600 RPM. 10° vacuum advance. That's 14°-16° initial with 21° centrifugal. My Duraspark has a start retard so no issues there...
ok so im not that far away. i dropped my initial down to 16 yesterday. seems to still idle good and temp isnt rising at idle. i tried my all in at 2600 and it has ping happening. at 3000 all in still rattling some. at 3500 mine clears up. i suppose im gonna stay at 3500. at 4000 sounds same as 3500 with slight less power. im really liking this distributor.
