I took the 750 double pumper apart a couple days back, and all the parts have been soaking until today. I got everything as clean as it is going to be, and reassembled the carb.

I got a ball left over. Isn't that typical

It came out of either the throttle plate or throttle body, because I found it in the container those were soaking in.

It is not one of the ones from under the float bowls, above the pumps.

I called Holley, and he described where it would go thinking it was part of the power valve assembly, and it should go into the throttle plate, but there should be some springs and stuff that go with it, but if I don't see the springs, then it is probably an older carb and doesn't need it so throw it away.

I am not throwing it away. Just in case it doesn't run right.

Anyone have any idea where this goes, and if I DO in fact need it?

There are cylinder shaped anti-syphon valves under each squiter...

In the past, in old Holleys, I think those were balls, rather than cylinders.
Depends on how old your carb is...

    Btw:
If your fuel bowls have the BBs above the pump, keep your eyes open for bowls that accept the umbrella style valve.
I have come across them free/cheap in the past.
Currently looking for a set now. My current DP has the BBs.

Anyway, the umbrella valves are FAR more responsive and reliable. If you run across the chance for a donor carb or spare bowls, check for the umbrellas and take advantage.

Get the tag# from the carb, and call Holley........or get the Hayne's book on Holley carbs. Believe it or not, it is helpfull!

I have Blugene's book. It is called HPBooks Holley Carburetors and Manifolds and is VERY in-depth. It is this book...but the 1987 printing without the injection stuff.

But the exploded diagram is EXACTLY the same as the one holley sent with the rebuild kit. According to them, there is NO other ball.

Apparently, it is a pretty old carb, and I cannot find any identifying marks.

As always, I am doing it the difficult way...:p

I love Haynes...but have not seen their Holley book. Only Chilton, which I am NOT too impressed with.

Scott; I have the Hayne's Techbook series, printed in 1993. It is blue, and the pn# is 10223. Hope this helps. It is a good book, answered some of my questions. Good luck!

On some Holley's it is necessary to use a extra ball (weight) to keep the squiters from "PULLING OVER". This was a old racers trick, Now they make anti syphon squirters. When i ran the small bore carb on my first Blower i ran the anti syphon squirters Due to the increased air speed from the small bore. This may or may not be where your ball came from. But the only balls Ive seen in the Holley's is either there or in the float bowls, Which has already been discussed. These are the books i use.

Scooper--------little tid bit for you---- Holley kits have far more parts in em to cover mulitiple applications. Extra parts left over isn't something to worry about. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

This is an extra part left over from disassembly, not from the kit. That is why I am asking.

I am pretty sure this goes under one of the squirters, but I didn't take them out when I cleaned it (not while soaking, but later when I was using the brush on them). So could a "under-squirter ball" have come out without the squirter being removed? Maybe out of the throttle body somewhere else?

And, the squirter needles are still in both holes, and the balls go under those...don't they?:hmmm:

That is why I am confused...it seems like if the ball came out, I would have also found the needle was out...

OK, now I am REALLY confused...I have the carb completely disassembled again, and that extra ball is too big to fit in ANYWHERE!

Won't fit in the squirter holes, so it cannot be one of those:huh::hmmm::huh:

I am starting to think that some kid must have been shooting a BB gun at me and one of the BBs ended up in my tub of parts:D

Only place on the carb where it could fit is between the metering block and body, in one of the cone shaped holes leading in to the booster venturies, but a ball is not supposed to go there.

    Throw it away!
If you have the "needles" under the squirters, and a BB in each bowl, over the accel pumps, this one doesn't belong!

(Btw: you are not working on a vac secondary are you?)
If so, IIRC, there is a BB behind the vacuum diaphram.
I was pretty sure you had a DP though.

    DP, mechanical secondaries.

I put the carb back on and it runs BEAUTIFULLY. So I guess you and the holley tech were right, and it shouldn't have been in there.

I knew Anna could do it...:p
I been racking my brain trying to remember a "ball" in mine. I really don't remember any at all...
Runs beautifully huh? I need to stop reading your posts :(...
