...put your car back together before your project was completed just because you were tired of having it in pieces and not driveable?

I have had the front driver fender, hood, grill, rock guard, and front valence off for about 3 months until I had a chance to POR-15 the inside of the fender, fill in the earlier comet holes (for mounting the chrome trim), and cut the later inner door panel out to weld into the older door so my handles would match. I have been driving periodically with no glass in the door, no window crank and lifters, and no weather seal, so it has been rattling all this time, and no window, so no 1/8th track.

I finally just got tired of parts all over and the car not really legal, installed the weather stripping, window, fender, grill, hood, but not the door handle inside the passenger door (so you still have to Duke-boys it and open from the outside, or slide your body in and out the window :16suspect ). I have not POR-15d the fender, the trim-holes are still there, and there is no vinyl panel inside the door (and of course, no handle to open it).

At least the car is now street legal and I can drive it again. The battery has almost died and it takes a shot of starting fluid to get it running. It is too damned hot right now to work on this, so I just closed the garage door, turned on the A/C, and put it all back together.

Please, tell me that others have done this as well, and I won't feel like such a jerk to just slap it all back together unfinished

We did that for years with the Stallion we used to have. We'd tear it all apart to fix something and have every intention of and staying with it until it was finished, only to put it all back together again so it could go back on the road. Don't worry. Eventually they do get finished, just not when you thought they would be.

Part of owning a project/driver. I just can't wait to hear mine start again. It's been several years since it's been started. So to reply to your delema... No I havent just thown it back together. I used to patch it though... if that helps [IMG] When I decided to take mine apart I knew it would be awhile... I actually do get them kinda feelings though, so when I do... I go out to the shop and toot toot get right back at it. You can never give up though Scott. I'm sure the stuff went back on with some sort of satisfaction as to move on with it...

    Love that smilie!!!

It does feel nice to have a street- and track-legal car again. But it sure is ugly with all the new colors...

I won't be able to invest serious money into this until I have paid off our student loans...about 4 or 5 more years

These loans cost us more than most houses...

Too bad our hoods are tough enough to handle an a$$ being slid across it without buckling up underneath us...

Thought of the black primer, but in TX, it is hot enough already without adding black to the car to absorb more heat

I admit, though, it sure would look sweet with a nice flat black surface...all one color.
