Can anyone tell me how to get the hvac control switch in. It just does not seem to fit anyway. If the silver knobs come off, it would be easy, but they don't seem removable. Thanks
The silver knobs pull off. Then you can remove the trim plate, but be careful, they are notorious for snapping the pins off.
Steve, What is that "Cobra" garbage at the bottom? Is it hiding some screws that someone drilled to mount the cover? Micah
Cobra GARBAGE??!! It is one of the stick on plates used as identifiers for the '69 Fairlane Cobra(note my cars)...
Thanks, but I got it figured out without any help... finally! It goes in from the back, not the front. I'm not sure why I didn't think of it earlier #%$?@#. Anyway, there is no way those silver knobs are coming off without breaking them (maybe I'll try some heat). I do need to replace the panel eventually, so I need them to come off. Tom, do you want that Cobra stick on, I don't want it.
Tom, I mean that only in the fact that some people like to stick "Cobra" on cars that never were. Steve, Those knobs sometimes would pop off over the years. Someone may have glued them on. You might have to sacrafice them to get them off. When I got my dash together, those unpainted control arms looked ugly. I slipped some heat shrink over them before I put the knobs on. It looked a little cleaner. Micah
Thanks for the info (yes, they appear to be glued on, they are not falling off). The heat shrink sounds like a good idea. Do you know of any new replacement knobs out there?
Never mind, I see Melvin's has them. Off they come. P/N C9ZZ18519A. How about an HVAC control panel, without A/C, I don't see that at Melvins.
The panels are not reproduced. Keep your eye on ebay. I found a green one that I repainted the original dash color, charcoal metallic flat. It turned out pretty decent. https://www.carpaintonline.com/products.php?PPGCode=32586&PNId=7514&SPCId=134 Micah
Thanks, this confirms my 2 hours of unsuccessfully trying every option from the front. But, I did finally get it in from the backside with bezel and knobs on. I do have almost all of my dash disassembled and I'm sure that made it possible from the back.
