How to route a lokar oil dipstick?

    It is kinda tight in there.

    How flexible is a Lokar stick?

    Should I route it in front of headers between steering linkages, or would I be better coming out from under and behind the headers to mount near the rear spark plug?

    Not sure how the stock configuration was on 5.0 cars, and don't want to spend big bucks on it if I cannot get it to fit.

    They're fairly flexible. I'd just order sufficient length to run it towards the firewall. Then if you want it to be slightly more accessible with reduced bending?.. just make a standoff bracket to mount it to. 2-3 inches usually helps straighten the more severe bends out.

    Due to the added flexibility.. you'll want to try and avoid cocking the angle right near the top of the tube or the dipstick will be tough to start down the hole. Stabbing, twisting, stabbing until it sinks into the tube is no fun.

    I would also highly recommend using a bit of header wrap or heat shielding sleeve where the tube passes close to the collector. You can also shield both the tube and the header for even greater protection.

    PS. Not that you want to push cheap parts into the mix at this point in your build.. but consider looking for the Lokar knockoffs too. TONS of offshore parts available these days and many can be found at car shows/swap meets. Not all are bad and there's money to be saved.

    So the suggestion is to go behind the headers and come out at the back of the engine?

    I need to figure out the route so I can make sure I get one that is the correct length.

    Dave, were those attempted link suggestions? I just see little thumbnail placeholders.

    EDIT--I see the pictures now.

    My headers hug the block too tightly for me to barely stick a brakeline down between the headers and the block.

    I will have to go down into the pan.

    I have a Lokar dealer not too far from where I work, so I may pop in and see what they carry. I will need one longer than what is recommended for 5.0s and will need to screw in. The 351 model is supposed to screw into the pan, so maybe that one would work for me.
