I have no clue about mini tub really other then there is someone around here Jim allen i think his name is has it. Looks like stock wheels for most part and he runs 10.1 just motor without nos. He has 408 tho... He is the person I seen down at races that made me get a mav if that tells ya anything. You will hook up a lot better and I want to do a mini tub on mine one day. I would rec. it. Great sleeper too :p

Some companies make kits for the popular cars, ie. novas, mustangs.....

You might be able to get one of those kits and "make it work" but you might be better off just starting from scratch. You have to move the leaf springs inboard first and then start measuring, measure again, measure again.....take a break....measure again....then start cutting!!

I thought Jim Allen's car had a full tub in it, I remember him bringing a video of the job to the roundup a couple years ago and I swear it's a full tub job with aftermarket wheel wells and everything.....He also had a nitrous kit on his car back then.......

Mini-tubbing may not be worth it. At least IMO. I took a look under there, and because the frame rails splay out at the back of the car, you wont gain much clearance. I looked at mine and considered it for about 10 minutes before I decided all that work wouldn't be worth the small gain in clearance.

Did it one time several years ago. I wouldn't bother on a solid car. The back of my car and fuel tank was extremely rusted and needed replaced anyway. About 3/4 of the work of a full back half job with about 1/10 the final result.

I first had to put a poly fuel cell in the trunk. You might be able to get the springs by the original tank with some creative means like re-mounting the tank to the right - but the driver side WILL BE TIGHT.
Next I welded a 2 x 3, 14 gauge tube across the back of the frame between frame members at the same point of the shackels. Then welded a piece of 2 x 3 tube across the front spring mount at the torque box. The front tube across the torque boxes was a great place to tie in the subframe connectors. Then I fabricated mounts with 3/16 plate for the spring hanger and shackels and welded these to the 2 x 3 crossmembers. This allowed me to move springs inboard of frame. Cut pads on rear end and relocate inboard. Fabricated new shock mounts and welded to rear end.
Next cut out the old wheeltub (torch, tin snips, drill spotwelds, air chizel, zizz wheel - all of the above.) I made my own wheel tubs from cardboard and had a local tin shop transfer in metal. Just weld to the floor. I didn't do a very good job attaching to the quarterpanel. Used a lot of foam and sealer. I will not give any advice on this because I was not happy with my results.

All of this work results in 4" per side additional clearance. (2 inches from removing the rear axel bump stop - and 2 inches from moving the springs inboard.)

Biggest bang for the buck is to jack up car, remove tires, put new blade in sawzall, cut off bump stops, replace tires, get a cold drink, feel good about gaining 2 inches in 30 minutes. This is what I did on my current maverick. (well I cleaned it up with a grinder and painted the frame so it wouldn't look like Monster Garage so it took me about 1 day) Along with rolling the outer wheel lip - I have plenty of room for 275 rears. Best of luck if you go this route.

I'm not 100% sure that its Jim allen just been told that. I seen him about year ago down in city of st. Louis racing. It was a oj maverick 70 I'm pretty sure. Who ever was driving said it was mini tub but I didn't look at the close was to dark outside. I just know when he beat a 11 sec mustang it turned everyone head. Mustang spray when they race also which was like wow. but like i said I'm not sure if its the same person but who ever the unknown man is made me get my mav :)

I doubht you can even keep your back seat with a mini tub in the mavs. i had considered doing it myself since i replaced the frame rails and most of it was cut out anyhow until i seen how the back of the seat lays in between the wheel wells. decided against it. good luck though

Fred Hale's car is mini tubed and he still has a back seat (though he did narrow it up a bit.....but I and a few others have just used a BFH in the proper places and a 10" slick fits under the car.....mine has ladder bars sos the springs are not an issue. And yes Jim Allens car is a back halfed car.and yes it has nitrous....
