I feel stupid asking this question but I am more worried about breaking the latch than I am about my pride so I hope someone will take pity on me:anyone:.

I've had comets in the past but have been out of the loop for a decade or so. I just bought my maverick and would love to start fiddling with it. Trouble is.......I can't seem to get the hood open.

There's a padle release lever under the hood that is easily accesible from the front of the car, but I've pressed it pretty hard and nothing happens. I couldn't find anything inside the cabin of the car that looked like a release mechanism so I assume it's all exterior??? From outside the car, I can see what looks like two hook shaped pieces of formed sheet metal that drop into a slot in the front framework behind the grill. It seems like pressing the front lever would squeeze the two hooks apart and allow the hood to release.

Can anyone tell me how to open the darn hood?

The previous owner opened it up while I was discussing purchasing the car and I really didn't notice anything funny about it, wish I'd paid closer attention but it's too late for that.

that lever is what you need to push. it pushes up. not sure why its sticking but it is. try pulling the hood to different sides as you pull up.

If it sticking try to get some wd-40 or som ekind of lubricant onto the latch. Spray it throughthe grill, you can clean up the mess later. Sometimes it helps to push down on the hood as you push the lever up.

    This will work.
2.-Press up on the latch with your fingers.
3.-While pushing latch up, with your other hand, press gently on the upper edge of the hood. Done! You hear the pop! it's open.
I've done this for an endless number of times and its always worked.

I agree push down on the hood while pushing up on the latch. When you get it open give it a liberal dose of WD-40. Shouls cure it.:)
