Can anyone explain what the little diamond shaped part of the hood webbing is for on the drivers side. It just seems so out of place. I am guessing that it is the reason that the Maverick hoods rust out so quickly in the front lower edge. So it must be directly linked to the drain holes somehow. No, really, I was just wondering what you guys thought.
Pretty sure it was to make room for the A/C compressor on V8 cars .... 1970 hoods do not have the diamond ....
I just always wondered why the hood bracing was not symmetrical. It is pretty ugly under there due to all the odd angles and spaces. You would think you could stand on the hood with all that criss-crossed bracing, yet it is one of the more fragile and flexible hoods that I have seen on a "heavy" car.
I remeber a Round-up a few years back, with all the cars lined up side-by-side with the hoods opened....several of us got to talking about it......and when rying to figure it out, we could not come up with any rhyme or reason.
lol! i went to go look. both my 73 are v8 air cars and both have it. but my 75 is a non air car and it still has it myabe later on they just got smart and make them all the same. 70's were just the test ones maybe did 70's come with air?
