Ok, Ok, I know that I have been M.I.A. for a while, but I have been busy with all of my domestic engineering...lol...Finally got back to the car. Hubby finished his bartenders craft school (thats was a condition to him getting his job here in vegas)which he finished 3 months early... and took his test and passed with a 90%. We were excited. Anyway, I decided that I would take a more personal approach to fixing up the Mav. So today, he was very tired and a little drunk from the afterparty( i mean, booze and fellow bartenders...go figure) so I decided to remove the vinyl top myself...finally...After a few hours of scraping which i did with putty knife (thanks for the idea Jean Doll) i got it all off! You guys know the feeling when you finish a goal on the Mav yourself, you feel great! I am sure that I looked pretty stupid being that we live in an apartment complex...People kept passing and staring...lol..It was cool also because my soon to be 11 yr old daughter and all her little girl friends were around me...They were really very curious about the car and the fact that a woman was working on it...Next thing I knew one was telling me that her dad is buying her a Hot Rod...etc...It was really cute. I even called a friend of the guy I bought my mav from and he came out to give me an estimate on the two dents (one on each quaterpanel...and no it wasnt me:tsk: ) and a ding on the door...fixed and primered will cost 175...not bad i thought. Decided on going all black with it after that...i wanted flat black...the guy recommended satin black...said still pretty dull, but wont spot up after awhile...any comments on this? Well, tomorrow will be the wonderful task of removing all the residual glue from the roof...FUN FUN FUN..Thanks again for all of you guys being here for me since before I got the car home...Sorry still no pics, but let me get the roof done and I will do what i have to;) ...to get some pics...lol...Thanks Again
    Cassie

P/S..Hey Jean Doll...my fingernails are gone too...I guess those days are over!!!LOL

I dont like anything but gloss. Flats are too hard to keep clean and dont even think about putting wax on them. Looks like primer in my opinion. Satins are only 1 step up. A very small step.

Good for you, Cassie! Keep it up.

I have to agree also with the paint thing. Gloss is the way to go.

Out of curiosity, where does your hubby work? We're going to be in Vegas on the 22nd. I finally decided to make an honest woman out of Joy and we're tying the knot there.

Thanks for the input Guys....What I am really aiming for is the ratrod look...thats why I wanted a paint that wasnt too shiny...I am planning on putting white walls with maybe red rims , possibily baby moon center caps....I guess I should have been more specific...probally do some cool pinstriping in the front....so, would I still go with gloss for that look? It usually is a dull finish on the rat rods...I know that most people will tell you that it has to be pre-71 to be considered a rat rod, but oh well...close enough...just thought it would be a interesting look....what do you guys think....And about me getting invovled, hubby had been trying to do the same for 9 yrs...I guess I finally saw the light, maybe your wife will too....Hey Wes, he works at the MGM...PM me sometimes and maybe we could meet up to say hi while you guys are in town...Could always have a drink at the bar where he works:drink:

Cassie, that's kind of the look I'm at right now. Personally, I think I'm going to end up with a dark satin blue, the satin I think looks better that pure flat, and holds up pretty well. My car is nothing fancy, set of magnums I picked up for 60 bucks hunting around, junk yard tires, (need alignment, bad) I like the simply look, not too many people go for it anymore. I do all the work my self, and when I need a hand, I ask people I know. I'm building the car for GO, not so much for show. If I can get my brother to snap a few shots, I'll post them up.

    hey Shaun,

Yea, i thought the satin would be better too, didnt want the gloss...I am excited to get my car togther...luckily, my engine is solid and so is the body ..other then the two dents i mentioned....I am gonna keep the tires I have for now, because all five are brand new..and i have made a decision...red painted wheels and crome baby moons for sure...ill get white walls later when the tires need to be replaced....cant wait till next week!
