Hey All, Mikey's "new" Comet rides nice but the rear springs are shot. It tends to bottom out on bumps. The main leaf has a reverse curve behind the axle. When the trans is shifted back and forth the rear end rotates quite a bit. I remember we used to use "helper springs" to reduce rear end wrap up on our hot rod Falcons. Has anybody used "helper springs" to reduce the sag in the rear end? I don't remember these being mentioned on this site. Lots of stuff about Econoline springs, J.C. Whitney replacements, etc. I'm looking for a simpler low buck solution. Another way to go could be taking a main leaf off another Maverick/Comet, cutting off the spring eyes and clamping it on to the existing spring setup between the main next one. This requires cutting the spring clamps and making new ones. No big deal. I saw this technique on a Jeep forum. Any ideas? Karguyz
I don't see why helper springs wouldn't work, but it's just as cheap to use the van springs, and ends up looking better in my opinion. You can keep the Maverick main leaf, and the E150's second leaf is almost as long.
