It depends on what "dead" means. Could range from a bad spark plug wire to a broken connecting rod. We need more information to answer that question.

it could mean a set of valves or a new set of heads or a number of other things it could turn into a major engine over haul or replacement

This car at 1500 could be the best deal or the worst deal in the world depending on what that "dead cylinder" means. If you don't have the means to check it out yourself, get someone who can help you.

I passed up a car years ago that had an engine that would not fire up so I walked away from it. A week later I see someone I know driving it down the street. It turned out that the rotor had the end contact broke off.

Make sure it doesn't get away from you if it is actually something simple - Good luck with it :)

I think the car might be worth the money even needing a replacement engine; if the rest of the car is in vry gud shape. Meaning, min. rust, body not banged-up, has all glass and trim in gud condx. It's not realistic to buy a 40 yr old car and not expect to do some upgrades .... maybe some major ones. Some pix of the car wud certainly shed some lite on the perspective of the car. If u have some background working on cars, this maybe a gud buy...If not ... then maybe u shud look elsewhere.
