I have a 71 maverick 200ci and 2 days ago my car started making a squeking noise when I would try to turn to the right. When I turn it to the right it feels like if my car has no power steering..it's really hard to turn it to the right plus it makes a loud squeaking noise but when I turn it to the left it turns smooth w/o any noise. What's wrong with it I need help:huh:

Sounds like a loose power steering belt, or a bad pump. Try the belt first, and if it looks good, be sure it is properly adjusted...1/2" of play. Good luck!

The power steering system in our cars is an odd arrangement... it has a ram that drives it both ways. The valve that switches it is at the end of the center link.

If it works well one way, and not the other, I suspect a problem with either the valve (most likely) or the ram itself. First check for an obvious problem with the hoses between the two, or leaking when turning in the direction that is giving you problems.
