I got a filler neck form a early mav not sure on year but the car has the maverick emblems on the sides, grill and dash, anyways the filler neck is short and goes in half way into the gas tank and is not like the other filler necks i have seen which are longer. Will this affect my 77 maverick in any way and where/which gas cap will fit on that filler neck:eek:

All Mavericks and Comet filler necks are the same except for the 70. The 70 does not go into the tank. It is connected by a rubber hose so the filler neck is shorter.

Is there an original locking gas cap available for our cars?

Yes...ford Made a Maverick locking gas cap. It says "Maverick" on it. Very hard to find. See them on ebay from time to time.
