Help w/Original battery SIZE and RATING?...

    Hey eberybodeee...

    beed a log timb since I beed here. I hab da flu dis weeg. Threw my back out at the same time so I've been double-medicating "both ends" all week. One beer after all the pills and I'm gooned.

    anyhow, gotta lovely gift card for my B/day so I am battery shopping to get the 302 Comet streetable this summer.

    Car doesn't have a battery and I can't find original specs on-line; since my other car has a six I wanna be sure of the correct CCA without wasting money on overkill.

    The weather is mild and rarely cold here; all I could find was "size 65" for Fords? 450 CCA maybe too low? I do tend to play the stereo for several hours but right now THAT car has absolutely nothing in it.

    I'll probably get one of Canadian Tires' "72" battery's since I have used them before with no probs on exchanging them, and they're cheap.

    Any suggestions on battery size/type/style?

    Back in the day, the guideline for CCAs was pretty much that they should equal the cubic inches. Batteries were nowhere as efficient as they are now. By today's standards, that would be one tiny battery. It is easy to surpass stock specs for old cars now.

    The Group number is the basic size and post configuration ... within that you will find batteries with a range of CCAs.

    It is to your advantage to put a battery in with more CCAs ... the battery can spin the engine over easier, and your reserve time will be better. It won't get drained low as easily, and your alternator should not have to work as hard overall.

    Unless you have a lot of added power accessories, 450 or 500 ought to be plenty.

    My wife's 07 Mustang came with one rated at 500 and it has power everything ... just upgraded to one rated at 590 CCAs ... biggest one that will still fit in the original battery blanket that came on the car (never had one of those before ... battery is next to the firewall ... must be a heat-deterrant ... (y)). If it was easier, I would have put 700+ CCAs in that car ... heat kills batteries as much as cold does.
