I was looking for advice on the doors for my 74 Maverick. They have rust in the corner of each one on the outside and the drivers door has it on the inside too. Is it cheaper/better to try and have this fixed or would buying new doors be a better option? I found someone that has them for $150 each. Thank you for your help!
That depends on how rust free the other doors are. Actually, rust repair on the doors is one of the easiest jobs to do on a Maverick. A good bodyman can cut out the rusted area and weld in new metal without much problem. It can either be a small patch or a whole lower patch along the entire bottom if the rust is too bad. I would get a few estimates and compare the prices to that of the doors your friend has. Take into account the $300 you would spend on the doors plus how much it would cost to paint them to match the car versus the cost of repairing the old ones.
the $150 each sounds a little high to me...i saw a pair in a yard for $75 each and he said it was that because he gets $50 for the door glass. that is in Ga. not in Cali....frank...
Thanks The guy is offering 75 per door now. Says they are in excellent condition. I'm wondering if the glass, handles, etc are included. When I say "door", I mean the whole thing, glass and all. It got rusty from living at the beach.
Doors As it turns out, he wants to sell me the doors for 75 a piece. My interior is dark blue but the interior of the doors are light blue. Can my interior pieces be swapped with the interior pieces of the doors I may buy? I'm trying to keep it as original as I can.
Doors I have a 74 and I told him that. I'll have the auto body shop make sure upon delivery. He says the interior color is light blue and my interior is dark blue so I'm not sure. I may have to trust the auto body place to know what they are doing.
Update I got my doors! They were from a 75 Maverick. They fit great and the interior turns out to be the same color as mine.
