just put in my driveshaft into the vehicle and it seems like my driveshaft is 2-3 inches too shoft, i measured the housing on my tci trans and my old one they are the same length, what did i do wrong on my v8 conversion?
Was your swap a I6 to a V8? If so How long is the I6 compaired to the V8. I had a simular problem when I took out my 250 and installed the 302. I got a drive shaft out of a 79 Couger and had it shortened and ballanced. Cheaper than having it lengthened.
yeah it was 200 to 302 swap, everywhere i read about the swap they stated i could reuse my old drive shaft
The length of the engine has nothing to do with it. The transmission stays in the same location (+/- maybe a half inch at most) no matter what engine you have in there. Think about it. If the transmission moved, it wouldn't bolt to the transmisson cross member.
how much of the yolk is supposed to be showing? and how much of the driveshaft is supposed to be inside the trans? whats the actual length of our driveshafts?
i have good 3 inches showing, i don't understand why i have so much showing, its a stock driveshaft everything is the same as it was before...
Is the weight of the car on the rear end? Sometime's if the rear suspension is hanging in the air loose, it will cause the problem you describe. Be sure the trans mount is on correctly, some have the studs offset one way or the other, in the rubber.
If your using the same kind of transmission then the driveshaft will work. Like Dave said... may be due to car being jacked up etc... May also not be getting it properly aligned w/ the splines... just a thought
i thought that to, i put the vehicle on the ground and looked under it, it didn't change much, going to look at the transmount after work and see if its on right.
If he put his frame stands on wrong, would it not shift the engine forward? I should know the answer, but it's too early in the AM... The frame stands are basied to the rear, are they not? Putting them on backwards would bais the engine forward a couple inches... right? Something to think about. Then the tranny mount would have to be reversed and the crossmember is slotted, so someone could do it if everything just happened to fall wrong at the same time. I might be totally wrong here... Just thinnin alowd Dave
i believe if you turn the frame mounts around , if the offset is towards the front it would hit the sway bar , unless you dont have your sway bar on.....but make sure offset is towards the back
I am getting dizzy trying to tell from this pic taken on an angle, but doesn't it look like he has some extra room behind the block there? Or is it just me? Look at the top of the bellhousing area and notice how much room he has to the firewall. We shouldn't see that much bellhousing in this pic IMO.
What trans is it? I just swapped a 302 into an original 200 car, added a t-5, and the old driveshaft fit perfectly, maybe a dumb question, but are the centering pins located into the axle? heavier springs? Worn out eye bushings?just some thoughts, cause if the trans is in the cross member, the motor should be in right, and then the problem I would think lies in the rear just a thought
i dont know i think that looks about right , from the back of the block to firewall is about 2 inchs +/- on my car and and from the front of the shock tower to front of block is about 3 inchs +/-
