Hello everyone. New member here....Boy am I glad I found this site.....I have a 1973 Ford Maverick that I bought back in 1999. I started a family shortly after the purchase and it has sat in barn until just recently. I have a lot of free time at my job most of the time and have recently brought it out here and started working on it in the shop.
I also have a 1974 Mav 4 door for parts....it's really beat up....but it has quite a few salvagable parts.....in fact im using the engine(250-6) in mine....the tranny in the 74 was bad.....opposite scenario in my 73.....tranny was good--when i got it anyway---and the engine was bad......

I've got some questions about the transmission that I will be posting a bit later. I know most of your answers will prolly be something like...."Take it to a professional"....however that is not in my nature....which i know is not really the best answer but id like to make this project my own and not pay someone else to fix it.....I also realize that I may run into a problem where that will be my only alternative but Id like to do as much on my own as I possibly can. If it takes me 50 years to restore it then so be it.....LOL.....Any advice you give will be greatly appreciated as Im sure most of you have probably experienced about every possible problem a guy could encounter.

I hope to become an active member of this group and would like to get to know each one of you that has my similiar Maverick interest.

Thanks for taking time to read this and can't wait for your input to my future questions, comments or concerns.

There must be a lot of barns in Iowa. Everyone there seems to have a car in a barn.

    Welcome to the board.

    :Welcome:

Trust me, if you even have a tiny bit of skill with mechanical stuff, there is nothing you won't be able to do yourself to one of these cars. I bought my car back in March, had been sitting for 13 or so years. In the past 6 months I have done things to this car myself that I thought I would never have the skill or knowledge to do. Theres been several times I've been ready to just give up and take it to a mechanic but in the end I've always figgured it out myself.

Doing all the work yourself will be the learning experience of a lifetime. And there is no feeling like the first time you take it out on the road and know it's truly "yours" that you did all the work on.

Good luck, can't wait to see some pics. :)
