I have a 73 Grabber 302 with A/C. The heater control valve is bad. I see a Motor Craft D4dz 18495-a. Or a Four seasons 74617 that look the same but appear to have a little different mounting. Can anyone tell me if there is a reason these valves would not work? There was another thread that talked about a Four seasons # 74802 but it looks a lot different than the one I have.

Any valve that has 2 ports should work fine. It really does not have to be mounted. Make sure it is in the pressure side heater hose, the one that goes to the intake manifold on a V8,or the cyl head on a 6cyl. Keep it as far as possible from the exhaust manifold heat. Before installing the valve, test which port opens it and which one closes it. You can do this with a small piece of hose by sucking on it. After you have installed the valve, with the engine running and AC on Max,see which vacuum hose is pulling vacuum and connect it to the port that you previously found to close the valve. Connect the other hose to the other port. Enjoy your more efficient AC!:)

I used a valve off of a 76 maverick instead of the earlier 2 line valves. If you trace them into the car you can see that they both come off of a T on the same vacuum line

it is only a $10 valve which is good considering the 72 maverick valve is no longer listed on several websites.
