I put hooker competition headers on my 71 mavrick and they fit perfect. Hooker also makes a super competition header for a mavrick but they are expensive. The competition headers are around $150.00 dollars from summit.

Do a search on Hooker 6901's. That's what you need.

Usually need to have floor shift to open the area around the steering box.
There are shorty steel headers that will fit but custom head pipes to mufflers have to be made and fitted.

The headers follow a basic design no matter the maker, unless you get bigger tubes...

Do you have a column shifter?
Do you have a manual or auto tranny?
Did you use the required P/S drop braket?

No header fits a column shift without serious mods.
Most P/S cars need the drop bracket. I have heard of 1 or 2 people getting away without using it... but it is rare.
Hedman's newer tubes do not fit stock manual tranny linkage. They revised the long standing universal design for some reason. It only works on floor shift autos. You could have those even if you bought a 'house' brand header, Hedman could have made them for Summit.

I guess the short answer is that you will have problems with any header if you don't have these key issues sorted out. If you have them sorted out, then the headers you have will fit as well as the others.

i just put the hooker 6901 super comp headers on my 71 and you MUST use a floor shift not column and the hooker p.s. drop bracket. other than that they fit perfectly.
the only other glitch i had was that hooker accidently sent me the ceramic coated headers instead of the black like i ordered. i think i will let that little oversight slide and not make a big deal about it. what would you do? huh??????

You probably already know, but I will put it out for general knowledge...

Hooker's S/C line of headers is made from thin steel for weight savings.

I say this because someone interested in street use headers may be more interested in durability than a fraction of an HP.
