    Hello All,

I have a few questions regarding replacement of a harmonic crank balancer on my 72 Grabber. Car has a 302 in it with stock balancer I would like to change out to a aftermarket fluid damper.

    1st question:
How do I know what oz this stock one is? 28 oz or 50 oz.

    2nd question:
Will any aftermarket damper fit where I can utilize the stock pulleys for alternator, power steering pump, etc. and they will still align the v belts correctly?

    3rd question:
I have seen numerous damper on Ebay for sale but they look physically smaller. Has anyone purchased one and if so which one did you get and were there any issues mounting it?

    Thanks a bunch!

If the 302 is original to the car it is a 28 OZ imbalance balancer.(and must be replaced with the same balance damper)regardless of which one you choose. As for size and fitment, contact the manufacturer/sellers tech line. They will be happy to help you out with pulley compatibility and size requirements.

There are certain engine builders that recommend against using a Fluid Damper in a street vehicle. Something about the fluid not reacting quickly enough to slight changes in throttle/rpm that occur in street driving.

Just looked at the eBay ad, that doesn't appear to be a Fluid Damper, looks and sounds just like my Professional Products damper that I paid $80 for somewhere else.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
The cool thing about that one is that is has bolt on weights, so if by some fluke you did have a late model 302 on there all you would have to do is change the weight :)

and like mentioned before its a great deal! the parts store charge more for a normal replacement.

Yep, I did exactly that. I used mine on a 28 oz 347 then on a 50 oz 5.0 for just the cost of the weight, $11 at the local speed shop.
